Dorothy Coleen Harrington, the daughter of Thomas and Geneva (Colbert) Roop, was born October 20, 1930, in Caulfield, Missouri. She attended country school before attending and graduating from Fairfax R-III School in 1948.
Dorothy was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, Missouri. Dorothy’s employment consisted of switch board operator for United Telephone Company, Fairfax, cook at Fairfax School, and nurse’s aide at Fairfax Hospital for many years before retiring.
Her biggest accomplishment was being a daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandma and great-grandma. Family was her life.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne Leo Harrington on January 31, 1949. They made their home in Fairfax and became the parents of six children: Carol, Connie, Linda, Janet, Mike, and Lisa.
Dorothy passed away August 11, 2020, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ernie Howell, Tarkio, Missouri, where she spent the last three years of her life. She was surrounded by a houseful of family, special caregivers and other loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Dub; sisters, Henrietta Roop and Ethel Vogler; brothers, Kenneth, Larry, and John Roop; son-in-law, Bill Lingerfelt; three nephews, John David Vogler, Gavin McCall, and Kerry Oswald; and niece, Kerry Bennett.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Carol (Steve) Riley, Tarkio, Connie (Steve) Lewis, Fairfax, Linda (Ernie) Howell, Tarkio, Janet Lingerfelt, Rock Port, Mike (Nancy) Harrington, Fairfax, and Lisa England, Tarkio; sisters-in-law, Lynn Roop, Tarkio, Betty (Jake) McCall, Rock Port, and Donna Roop, Fairfax; brothers-in-law, Danny Vogler, Fairfax, and Richard Smith, Rock Port; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great -grandchildren; and special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 15, 2020, at the Fairfax Baptist Church in Fairfax, officiated by Rev. Glenn Scott. Burial was in the English Grove Cemetery near Fairfax, Missouri.
Memorials may be directed to the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department or the Fairfax Baptist Church, both of Fairfax. Arrangements were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
