Larry Vernon Roop
Larry attended Spring Valley, Daleview and Fairfax schools, graduating in 1959 from Fairfax High School. While there he participated in football, basketball and track, running the mile race. He also served as Deputy Marshal for the City of Fairfax for several years.
Larry loved to read and his favorite subjects were WWII and anything Native American. He also loved gardening in the summer, growing cucumbers and tomatoes. He loved animals, his favorites being dogs and cats, although his favorite breed was Huskies
Larry enjoyed watching sports. His favorite teams were the UConn Women’s College Basketball team and Duke Men’s College Basketball Team. And, of course, his beloved Chiefs. He had to wait 50 years, but he saw them win the Super Bowl.
Fath, as he was known to his kids, could build or fix anything. If you could draw it, he could build it. It gave him great pleasure especially to do this for his kids and he did this so many times over the years. He was always there to help his children because he loved them so much. Fath will be missed. It will be difficult to live without him and his help and advice.
Survivors include his three children, Kevin (Sheila) Roop of Marcus, Iowa, Dell (Sally) Roop of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jada Howell of Indianapolis, Indiana; his friend, Karen A. Ray; nine grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Harrington of Tarkio, Missouri; along with many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Henrietta; sister, Ethel Vogler; and brothers, Kenneth Roop and John Roop.
A memorial service will be held later this year, with a private family inurnment afterwards. Memorials may be sent to Bryan Heart Hospital West in Lincoln. Arrangements are under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
