Viola Fern (Tudor) Simmons
Fern was born in Langdon, Mo., on April 28, 1930. She was one of three children born to Harry and Helen (Brewer) Tudor.
At the age of three, her family moved to a farm north of Corning, Mo., where she grew up. She attended school in Corning for eight years, finishing her high school years at the Rock Port School. Fern graduated with the Class of 1948.
On July 29, 1949 Fern became the wife of Norman Simmons and they made their home in the Fairfax area. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on July 29, 2010.They became the parents of six children.
Fern loved to do crafts. She participated at the annual Clarinda, Iowa, craft show for the past 38 years.
She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to the TEC Club, KEC Club, and Milton Club.
Fern cherished her family with all her heart. Fern especially loved to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in all their various activities. This gave Fern great joy.
She worked at the Community Hospital for 22 years after working at the Fairfax Walnut Shop.
Fern was a longtime member of the Christian Church of Fairfax.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Tudor.
Fern is survived by her husband, Norman; sons, Terry (Barbie), Teddy (Vickie), and Barry (Lyn); daughters, Sharon (David) Wynn, Karen (Chris) Easley, and Brenda (Donnie) Brandt; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Fairfax Christian Church, Fairfax Booster Club, or American Cancer Society.
Open visitation begins after 1 p.m. on Friday at the Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax. There is no family visitation.
Graveside services and burial will be on Saturday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the English Grove Cemetery west of Fairfax.
